Mini Printing Workshop

At my quilt group tonight we had a mini workshop with Alison Muir who had learnt a technique at a Wendy Lugg workshop and adapted it to her style. I love the way quilters share.
Basically you use what we call contact paper - sort of sticky paper used for shelf & drawer liners - as a resist and then print/stamp/paint over it.
These are my two pieces. It was a lot of fun and I think I will be playing more with this technique.

Workshop Results

Yesterday we had the second workshop for Breaking the Drought. I was so thrilled to see the results of the first class. Most of the day was spend learning and practicing machine quilting and everyone seemed really happy with their quilts.

Here are some of completed tops. There are some more to be completed and I think everyone really enjoyed the workshop.

They were all different but so great.

As a postscript - I just received this email which absolutely made my day.

As one of the members of your Saturday class at Peg's pieces, I wanted to tell you what an enjoyable class it was. All the 'girls' there said they had learnt so much in the way of new techniques, and I totally agree. Thanks Lisa for a great couple of days.

If you are interested in where I will be teaching this next please check my website.

Cleanup Time

Probably procrastinating, but I really couldn't find anywhere clear to work in my studio today so decided I needed more drawers. Also having my baby (21 year old) finally leave the nest recently leaving an empty room helped. We have moved some of the fabric tubs that get filled for shows and things into that room and so the time had come to get more organised.

This is just after the new drawers went in. I lashed out for the more expensive Elfa ones which are just so much stronger than the other taller ones which are Ikea.

Starting the sorting process. Two collections - one of silks and other fibres and one of my own hand dyes. The space in the centre was where I was sitting (for about two hours).

Now - with a new table top which fits - it looks al lot more inviting.

Even the other side looks better.

Now I better get down to some sewing don't you think.
I am exhausted but really pleased to have made the effort.

Felted Finish

This has been created on a piece of hand made wool and silk felt and embellished with beads. I love the tactile nature of felt and beads together.

New Direction

I am starting to do some work using layers and my multicoloured fabrics. This one will probably have some beads added just for a change.

The World is getting smaller

I spent the weekend in the country seeing a bit of Australian countryside which was amazingly dry and brown. I wish it would rain.

No this house was not inhabited - there was a big concrete slab behind it where, I suspect a modern souless brick home was planned but I think this home would have had many stories to tell.

This is what is know here as a dunny - an outside toilet - which was usually just plonked over a hole in the ground. They are famous for being a home for redback spiders. This one has seen better days.

Flying back into Sydney in the early morning was also beautiful. The windows of the little plane were a bit dirty so my images had a hazy feel.

While I was away I had a visitor from Kazakstan to my blog - how incredible to think that this person probably tripped over my blog by accident and saw a touch of Australia - I would love to know who they were and what brought them here.

1. Whats your name spelt backwards?
Asil - never liked that.

4. Have you ever licked a 9 volt battery?
Can't recall but doubt it, although something in the deep dark recesses of my mind think otherwise.

Earth Hour

Last night Sydney turned off its lights for an hour for Earth Hour and we joined in.
I really enjoyed the peace and quiet and mood of the candlelight. In fact we stayed like this for the rest of the evening.
