More on Delicious

This is a full shot of Delicious as well as a detail shot showing the quilting and the metallic painted insert in the blocks.

A little touch of paint really adds another dimension.

Cover Girl

The latest Down Under Quilts arrived this week and I was thrilled to see that my quilt Delicious was on the cover. Always gives my a thrill to see my work in print but to have it on a cover is wonderfully special.

This quilt was the result of an accident when I was looking to create something yummy out of some boring fabric. A whole armful of dull fabric was thrown in the same bucket and out came a wonderful set ranging from green to russet brown. Wish I could remember what the original colours were and what colour I dyed them in. It was a happy accident and some of the resulting colours were used in this quilt.

I also used thin strips of a painted piece of fabric to add that bit of zing. It is one of the simplest designs I have done. I will post a full picture of the quilt once I get a decent one.

This is a photo of the back showing the quilting.

New Quilt

I have made this quilt as a project for a new online magazine called iQuilt which is about to be launched.

Midnight Sky is made with one piece of midnight blue hand dyed fabric and the border of metallic hand painted fabric. The painted fabric is also used for the cutout stars. I use Lumiere metallic fabric paints which I love using.

The beading is a simple design of seed and bugle beads repeated over the surface.

The King Tut variagated thread is quilted in a curved linear design with the stars creating their own patterns.

She cannot have slept much

I have just received this photo from Sandra who did my beading class just last week. I cannot believe how much she has done.

I think I may have converted another to the obsessive beaders group.

Wholecloth Quilt

I received this wonderful photo today from Karen Terrens in Melbourne Australia who used some of our hand dyes to make this amazing wholecloth quilt.

I think it just glows don't you?

Student Work

I love it when one of my students send me a photo of a piece started in my class.
This is from Lorraine Bradley who recently came to a beading class. The design is based on Nancy Eha's from her book Bead Creative Art Quilts which is one of my favourite beading references.

Lorraine thinks she might incorporate the piece into a vest - can't wait to see it.

Sunset

I have been slack with blogging - mainly as I don't think I have anything interesting to post. However tonight as I left the dreaded day job there was this beautiful sunset being reflected in the building.

Beaded Jewel Boxes

I have found a supplier of these wonderful satin covered boxes which absolutely cry out for beading.

Here is one I did using a simple glued on cabachon and some simple beading which I think looks really nice. I have them in two sizes and a variety of colours on my website. I have done a couple more which I will post photos of when I get them back from a store where they are on display.

Dookie

Last weekend I was a tutor at Dookie which is a small town in country Victoria. The venue was at the Agricultural college and the smell of sheep and pigs was genuine and sometimes overpowering but great for this city girl.
The sheep didn't like me though

This was the cottage where the tutors were housed. It was so peaceful and calming.

About 100 enthusiastic students spent two days with an assortment of tutors. I taught my two day beading class and certainly feel I have converted some quilters over to the dark side of beading. We had a lot of laughs and this was supplemented by a seemingly unending procession of meals and afternoon and morning teas.

This was my classroom block - lots of light and desks and whiteboards - everything you need.

Lots of nature, gum blossoms and earthy smells.

I kept forgetting to take my camera to my class but did take it on my early morning walk and also popped down to the early starting Indigo dyeing class which looked like a lot of fun.

Returns

I sell hundreds of metres of hand dyed fabric but only see a fraction of how it has been used. Sometimes people send me photos of what they have made so here are a few.

Heather liked her Opal Fire lap quilt so much that she is now making a queen sized version for her bed.

Kathryn has made a Fabrications quilt and admitted it was well outside her usual comfort zone but she really enjoyed the new processes she tried.

Sasha made her own version of Summer Trellis

Weekend Workshops

I had a busy weekend with two different workshops at two different stores. Such fun as they were both the second day of two day workshops and it was amazing to see what they had achieved in the period between classes.

The first one was at Pegs Pieces where we were doing Beading and creating the wonderful design of Nancy Eha's. These are the first stages and our youngest student Sarah seemed to enjoy it too! I will post a photo of a completed one soon.

Next day was at Pretty Parcels where the ladies brought along their Fabrications tops. It was so exciting to see what they had achieved.
