Geelong National Wool Museum

I was also taken to the National Wool Museum in Geelong. You might think this would be boring but I found it really interesting.
I love machinery and we had a great time following through the processes needed from paddock to final product.

Of course the dyeing display appealed.

There was also a wonderful scarf display - hundreds of incredible scarves floating in the gallery. I would have loved to have bought some of them but all my favourites were already sold.

Must have been exciting to be able to go see Stephen Fry. I´d love to be able to go to the museum and see the beautiful scarves and touch them!

I dragged my friend along to the museum, or rather, persuaded her to stop en route to the Great Ocean Road -- and she was fascinated. So was I. We both bought scarves in the museum shop, and after wearing mine constantly I managed to lose it on a train (while taking a worse-for-wear colleague home from a party at work).
But the highlight of the visit to the museum was seeing that loom weaving the carpet. The fellow in charge of the loom showed us how to tie a weaver's knot and smiled at our clumsy efforts - then simply rolled his fingers over the two bits of wool, and they were joined -- with a knot that was no wider than the wool itself, so that it could pass through the heddles. Wow that shows years of practice - and a basic weaving skill!
