Beading Work in Progress

I have been a bit slack in posting photos of my recent quilts as they are usually for a show or publication so hopefully I can show them soon.

However, in my spare time, I have been doing a little beading so thought I would show you the work in progress. It is nice to work on small pieces which are more portable rather than enormous quilts occasionally.

This did start off as a jewellery piece but as usual - I kept going so it will probably be a framed piece. The centrepiece is a button(?) I bought on my first trip to the Houston show about 5 years ago - see nothing gets wasted but I am glad to be able to use it finally.

  1. Wow, that is lovely. I'm in awe of anyone that can do beadwork like that. It's on my list of things to learn.

  2. It's absolutely gorgeous!!! I'm curious; why do you bead directly on the batting (or is that felt or wool?) rather than onto a fabric? Pro's? Con's? I love to bead & this piece of your is inspiring!
    Thank you for sharing!!!

That's looking great, Lisa. For more buttons, you might try searching for "czech button" on ebay.

  4. Thanks for your great comments.
Stacy - it is done on Timtex because firstly I had some and secondly - it was going to be a jewellery piece and I would have backed it with ultrasuede.

  6. What a sumptous surface and you've only just begun, will be spectacular once you have finished the piece. This s very inspiring too since I intend doing some beading soon - a beaded book - very ambitious.

  8. I love that button! What a great starting point. No wonder you couldn't stop at couple rounds. I love how your color choices both match and complement the focus piece. Can't wait to see the finished piece.
