I think I have finally got the hang of quilting on my Bernina 820. I have done this little piece and am very pleased with it. I think it has a definite underwater feel to it and would love you to suggest a name for it.
It is only 12in x 12in and used a single piece of hand painted silk which I purchased at an Opportunity Shop for a couple of dollars for a two metre piece. A bargain I think. It was quilted with a selection of Japanese threads which I purchased in Tasmania a few months ago and didn't have one breakage. Yay!!

Of course it will probably need a bead or two of course.
It looks gorgeous. Underwater came to mind before I read your thoughts. I think 'Blue Bayou'would suit.

ReplyDeleteCould I ask you, Lisa, what cabinet you use for your 820?
I cannot fit the Horn sovereign cabinet into my room and I understand it is the only one with the 'maxi-lifter'. I have a large cut out in my cabinet (the quilting queen)but only the large lift which apparently will only hold 15Kg. The 820 will fit just fit I think, but I am worried it will collapse!

Judith - thanks for the comment - I like the name too. In answer to your question about the cabinet - I have a Horn Quilters Dream I think and it JUST fits. However you have to put the power cord in first and then slide it in sideways and I have accidentally broken the plastic edge but now it is easier to put in.

Lisa, are you using BSR 1 or 2? I am finding 1 too slow and now I am trying BSR 2 without the foot control, just the push button. I think that it is better for me. Did you reduce the pressure foot and what stitch length did you use?

ReplyDeleteThanks everyone - it is so encouraging to get your comments. In answer to the BSR questions. I have to admit I don't actually use it. I seem to have my own rythmn going and even though my stitches are not absolutely even I think I prefer my way. However - it was one of the reasons I bought the machine and it is a great way to learn to free motion quilt without tears. Like a bike with trainer wheels.
