Be Creative by the Sea 2011

I am very excited to be asked back to Be Creative by the Sea in 2011. I will be teaching alongside internationally acclaimed Hollis Chatelain and Carol Taylor as well as my friend Deb Louie.

I will be teaching Beneath the Surface where we work with freehand curved piecing and angelina applique leaves and beads

and Luscious Landscapes where we play with lots of different fabrics and yarns to create a landscape.

I will be incorporating some of the many processes and ideas that I am absorbing here in Houston so I hope you will consider joining my class.

Be Creative Workshop Continued

Above is the centrepiece of Narelle's tree fern. Fabric collage formed the background and then additional cutout leaves were added before covering in solvy and then intensely stitched.

Shelley started out with her starburst made with Solvy and then continued on the same theme. There are some other really interesting lettering and foiled pieces included.

Carolyn really enjoyed the stamp cutting process and made some beautiful stamps which formed the basis of some further embellishments. Her dragonfly piece is

Brenda created this wonderful landscape and embellished it with lots of metallic stitching and fibres.

Be Creative Retreat - Coffs Harbour

I have been teaching my new Textured Treasures workshop at Coffs Harbour for the last three days and have had so much fun. The idea of this workshop is to create a quilt using your own inspiration - it can be a landscape or texture or shapes. We then explore many surface design techniques to use as a basis for our final quilt. Rowena's seaside landscape above is developing beautifully.

This was the first time I have run this workshop but my students were so terrific that they were happy to join me for the experience. 14 students over a three day class can be fairly intimidating but the time went so fast.



We were nervous of ruining the carpet so had half a day outside painting and stamping and stencilling.


We beaded, stamped, collaged, fused and quilted and here are a few of the magnificent pieces.

Fiona and Wendy did landscapes based on their own images. Now to bead them for more added texture

Keryn was working outside her usual comfort zone but creatively turned this image of a cactus garden into a beautiful quilt. She carved stamps of the cactus and the main border fabric is a fabric made in Africa given to her by her brother many years ago and has special significance.

C&G Assessment

My work on my City & Guilds Course has been a little sporadic due to the chaos that is my life but I was determined to do this one last week.
It was a cushion based on a landscape and I used some images taken from the air over Kalgoorlie when I taught there last year. I loved the contours of the old mines and the colour of the water.

This is the back view.

Here is a detail shot.

I was quite pleased with it and it also received good comments from my C&G Tutor.
Am now mid Module 8 of 10 Modules so the end is in sight. I have really enjoyed the discipline of this course - just wish I had more time.

Be Creative by the Sea Retreat 2010

I am so fortunate to be invited back to Coffs Harbour for the new Be Creative By the Sea Masterclasses. I will be at the Creative Winter Escape from 4th to 6th July 2010.

I am launching a new 3 day workshop developed specifically for Be Creative which will give students the opportunity to work with a broad range of textile skills including stamping, foiling, free motion quilting, rubbing, beading and working with water soluble stabilisers and textured fabrics. We will be compiling these techniques to create a unique wall hanging using inspiration gathered from your own experiences and influences.


Registrations open on 1st January and numbers are very limited and I would love you to join me for a really creative and inspiring time.

Additional Bead Class at Coffs Harbour

Funny how things change. Last year we could not fill a beading class at Be Creative by the Sea in Coffs Harbour. This year it is the opposite with the afternoon class filling up so quickly and leaving many disappointed potential beading addicts.

So I am now pleased to announce that I will be having an additional half day beading classes in the morning on Wednesday 29th April. Places are limited so please contact Be Creative if you would like to join us. Kits are available and I guarantee you will be beading up a storm at the end of the class and possibly the beginning of a new obsession.

Although you don't have to sign up for any other workshops, there are still some places left with some pretty amazing tutors. The venue is incredible and the food (and cocktails) to die for too.

SAQA Exhibition in Brisbane

My quilt Crystallisation is being exhibited as part of the SAQA: Oceania Art Textiles exhibition in Brisbane at Gallery 159. It was opened by Janet deBoer, editor of Textile Fibre Forum magazine & Gallery 159 Director.



It has been away for a while now and I am looking forward to getting it home. Especially as I am teaching this design at Be Creative by the Sea Retreat in Coffs Harbour in April. There are still some places in the workshop if you are interested. It's a fun and freeing workshop using lots of scraps and easy easy piecing

Be Creative Retreat Coffs Harbour 2009

Today is the opening day for booking for Be Creative by the Sea Retreat in Coffs Harbour at the Opal Cove Resort in April 2009. I am very excited to again be invited to be a tutor as I had such a great time earlier this year.

I hope that some of you will consider booking in and joining us for a wonderful time. Classes fill fast so if you are interested I would suggest doing it soon.

The resort is magnificent and so is the food. With the added bonus of quilting workshops. What more could you ask for?
