Sydney Quilt Show

 

Yesterday was the start of the Sydney Show which is Australia's largest quilt show. I was very fortunate to win 4th Prize in the Anything Goes Category for my quilt Flowing.

All the prize winners can be seen on the Quilters Guild of NSW website.

Thanks to the Guild for a great show including all the sponsors including Dayview Textiles who sponsored my award and major sponsor Bernina who are a major sponsor for all Australian Quilt Shows.

Also very exciting is the fact that I am the Guest Exhibitor this year and it is amazing to see so many of my quilts hanging together in such a large space. I give a floor talk every day too which is a bit scary but going well so far.

Dyed & Gone to Heaven of course has a stand (F32) which is full of hand dyed and painted fabrics including our gorgeous new cotton sateens, hand dyed wools and an amazing collection of our overdyed vintage linens.

Back Briefly

This is Dyed & Gone to Heaven at the Sydney Quilt Show just before the show opened and below was an hour after the show closed! We were quick. But we have to do it all again in three days for the Textile Arts Festival in Brisbane.

I haven't had a chance to blog for a week as it was just too busy at the show and at night we had a great time going out with friends. We had a great time and were really really busy. Lots of our fabric and bits and pieces went to new homes and I really hope that they get turned into beautiful quilts and other masterpieces.
Unfortunately one of my beaded buttons on display has gone to a new home too. Not that it was supposed to but I hope the person who stole it off the wall thinks that it was worth it!

My mail today brought me the latest Thr3fold Journal from Linda and Laura Kemshall so now all activity will stop while I devour it.

I love their work and find them so inspiring. Their Design Matters TV has the best online tutorials and I anxiously await each one and have never been disappointed. If you haven't already checked it out go to their website an look at the sample shows.

Sydney Quilt Show

Great day yesterday at the Sydney Show. One of the best things about doing a show in my home city - apart from getting to sleep in my own bed - is seeing so many friends.
There is a steady stream of familiar friendly faces saying hello and it is wonderful to see so many.

I am doing a free demo/workshop everyday on Aurora and Midnight Sky Art Quilts as well.

My quilt Crystallisation won Third Prize in the Professional Anything Goes Category which is terrific and all the prizes winners can be seen on the NSW Guild Blog. I am teaching this quilt in Canberra later in the year if you are interested. If you would like me to teach it at your group or store just contact me.

I was most thrilled that my friend Pennie won first prize for her miniature called 'Because I can..'. We all thought she was mad when she started it - actually we still do but it just goes to show how clever she is. The ribbon is bigger than the quilt.

Setup Day

Today we set up the stand for the Sydney Quilt & Craft Fair which opens on Wednesday at Darling Harbour Sydney.
We are very pleased to have a stand closer to the doors this year. Traditionally people always start at Row A and work through until the end. This must be very frustrating as the crowds in the first aisles are dreadful and down the other end you just hear the rumbling buzz of the crowd getting closer.

So this year we have a larger stand but nearer the doors which hopefully will be beneficial. It also meant that we could set up today and not tomorrow. Tomorrow is actually my birthday and it will be nice not to have to work and just have a pleasant relaxing day before the busy show week ahead.

This is what we started with and it only took about 3 hours to get it set up completely but we covered it all up before I got to take a finished photo.

It is always interesting to see what the Halls look like on setup days. Music is blaring and you can bop along to old familar songs.

We finished in such good time that we even went up to Chinatown for a great Yum Cha before going home (to wash and dye more fabrics)

Wonderful Day - Again

Today was the opening of the Sydney Show and I am thrilled to announce that many of my good friends and I were fortunate to be awarded some prizes. Here is a link to the Guild's list of winners.

Have got one photo from setup day yesterday which amused me. You have to wear a safety vest as the site is deemed a construction site. I think he was taking it a bit far or maybe he was protecting her modesty.
