More Embellishing

Here is my latest piece. I think it still needs a little more but thought I would post anyway. Any comments or suggestions appreciated.

First made a piece of prefelt with rovings and some organza.

Then cut this piece up into rectangles and then diagonally and placed on 2in squares of acrylic felt

The placed on a grid on some green felt and felted down. The detail in the little pieces get a bit lost . I tried doing it from both sides but didn't like the green coming through to the top. Consequently there are lots of visible holes in the squares which I don't really like.

Also felted some nobbly yarns onto the grid.

Bit of simple stitching with yellow perle cotton but I think it still needs a little more something. I will block it so it lies flat.

I like your colours. How about making the little pinwheels stand out a bit more?

Thanks Linda - I will - just don't want to do it so they look like swastikas.

How about adding some pearls - green ones - or sequins? Just scattered around on the top without any design. What I could imagine, too, was to add some of the thick threads Ricky Tims offers. These felt beautifully, since they sort of crunch together in the felting process - I have them in gold and bronce and the really add pizzaz to every piece.

You've got a good idea! I'll keep the idea for when i've got an embellisher.
You could add some fancy threads between the squares ? in a complementary color ?

Lisa, thanks for showing the creative process, I think sometimes that's just as important as the finished piece for us "textile groupies". I'd like you to add some more gold, metallic threads or some pieces of metallic net. But I tend to add "glimmer" to everything, LOL, so you might have another idea.

Thanks everyone - yes I like the Ricky Timms Razzle Dazzle threads and have lots so may play.

I would trial orange near the pinwheels. Orange being the complementary colour of blue, thread or beads near the pinwheels might make them stand out more without the swastika effect.
Just a suggestion to try, it might not work with the green.
I love your idea, though, and the colours look great. Look forward to seeing the finished result.

I had a random thought in the middle of the night... what about outlining the triangles (the pinwheel parts) with couched yarn or thread...maybe bringing in that gold from the original piece of felt. It seems to have gotten a bit lost once cut up and separated, and I really like the life it brought to the original piece of felt.

Also like the idea of beads and sequins (of course!) maybe in little floaty swirls between and linking some of the small squares (which would also avoid the swastika thing, tho it never occurred to me until someone else mentioned it)....

Cheers, Sarah

Adding the pieces to the green felt really adds a lot. I'm sure you will come up with the perfect finishing touch.
