Home Again

I am home from hospital and the operation all went well I believe. My foot (that is the little thing surrounded by plaster and bandages shown below) now contains a couple of metal plates and a handful of screws along with a bone graft. For the next six weeks I can't even put it on the ground which will definitely slow me down. The worst part is the fact that I have to give myself an injection every day to reduce the chance of DVT. I don't think I would be a good drug addict - takes me ages to build up the courage to do it.
We have bought a wheelchair which should make life a bit easier although so far I have managed to bump into everything.

I have prepared quite a few bits of work so hopefully will make lots of use of this enforced 'leisure time'.

Thanks so much for all your kind wishes - they are much appreciated.

Lisa, glad to hear all went well. Does that mean you'll have problems with scanners at airports now, VBG. I have a friend with a full hip replacement, she has a card from her doctor stating this fact, but everytime she flies to visit family she gets pulled aside at the scanner and patted down !! She's 65, white haired and limps slightly still, so not very threatening to look at, VBG.

Hope this made you laugh a little, and that you can make good use of your "leisure time". Hope the pain isn't too bad, and you're up and running again soon.

Hooroo,
Christine

Hi Lisa-now--giving yourself clexane injections is no biggie compared to having a dvt!!!!Just think of it as doing stop stitch on your abdomen!!!! LOL .Hope it goes well and you get heaps done while u are forced to be stationary. All the best ! camcas

Get well soon! I had the clexane after my ceasareans. Although I didn't have to do them myself (thank gooidness), they definitely got easier to bear!

All the best for a speedy recovery, Lisa. The needles will probably get easier to do as you go. Just be careful that they don't get so easy that you inject your bead project and stitch a bead to your stomach instead!

Hi!,

All the best for a fast recovery, how brave are you injecting yourself.

Hugs for the strength to do the injecting things. Eeeek you are one brave woman! Here's my toast to a fast and complete recovery. Keep busy and try not to have too many collisions. They should give driving lessons with wheelchairs!

Hi Lisa,
Let me add my best wishes for a speedy recovery, too. Hope everything goes well and as intended.
I had some foot surgery as well some years ago. Had to manage our stairs on all fours, since I was afraid to stumble with my crutches. (And our house has lots of stairs - the living room and kitchen being in the second floor downstairs this was quite a rehabilitation program on its own.)
Giving myself injections was a problem, as well. It is not so much that is hurts, it is just building up the courage to stick a needle into oneself. I hated it!
So, grit your teeth and go on! I wish you all the best!
Angelika
