Everywhere

I recently had one of my quilts - Everywhere - accepted into the Beneath the Southern Sky exhibition and was very pleased to be in such great company. There are some amazing quilts in the exhibition.

I wanted to use the iconic Australian Song - I've Been Everywhere - but wasn't sure how to go about it so I played around with a few ideas and finally settled on this one which is sort of based on the fabrics we create in my Textured Treasures Workshop

First I created a thermofax screen using some of the names in the song.
I have a Print Gocco machine which is a sort of manual thermofax type machine but would dearly love to get my own real Thermofax machine if any of you know where there might be one needing a good home.

I also wrote some of the names of the towns on some of the fabrics using a glue resist technique with Elmers Washable glue and also some of the song lyrics with paint
Once I had a good collection of coordinating fabrics, they were cut
into strips and pieced together randomly, changing the direction of the text.

The words of the chorus were printed out in a nice font onto a transparency sheet and projected onto a piece of freezer paper the size of the quilt.
Then I quilted all around the letters and over the rest of the quilt.
Once quilted I tore off the paper
Then I painted inside the letters with Lumiere green paint
I finished the edge with a facing finish.

I am very pleased with how it turned out and you can see it as part of the Beneath the Southern Sky exhibition in Auckland this week and in Brisbane next week along with all the other venues coming up.
