Virtual Studio at FOQ

One of my favourite places (and regular features) at the Festival of Quilts is the Virtual Studio. It is run by the Committed to Cloth ladies Claire Benn and Leslie Morgan who are so inspirational.
These are some of the screens used on the piece above.
What a thrill to meet the lovely Leslie herself and watch her work on another birds nest piece.
It is set up so you can watch any of the artists at work, photography is encouraged and you can ask questions or just watch in awe as the fabrics are created. I was able to spend time there on the Sunday morning which was really quiet so I was really able to appreciate and learn. I have all their books now (just had to buy the last ones) and am really looking forward to going home and put some of their inspiration into practice.
Loved the technique of painting onto perspex shapes with thickened dye and then stamping them and just had to get a few sets of the different shapes.

This was a sample of different techniques Clare used for one of the books and they were printed on paper and then laminated together and held together with rings.
